Charles Deaton

Born in Clayton, New Mexico in 1921. Charles and his family lived in a tent on the Oklahoma plains for two years until they were able to afford building a one-room house. By age 16, he was supporting himself as a commercial artist. He studied structural engineering, industrial design and architecture on his own, and earned certification. Charles eventually became the designer on a myriad of architecturally distinct buildings including a ground breaking two-stadium sports complex in Kansas City, Missouri known as Truman Sports Complex or Arrowhead Stadium. The U.S. information agency singled him out as a pioneer in advanced architectural design.
